HPV Vaccine

Protects against Human Papillomavirus strains which cause cervical cancer.

It is the most common cancer in women aged under 35.

850 people die from cervical cancer each year.

The vaccine is 99% effective.

The vaccine targets HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58

ONE DOSE

  • Girls and boys aged 11-14
  • Usually given in school year 8
  • Men, under 25,  who have sex with men

TWO DOSE

  • Men (25 -45 years) who have sex with men
  • Available from sexual health clinics

*From September 2023

Three-doses will still be offered to people who are immunosuppressed or those known to be HIV-positive, including those on antiretroviral therapy.
