Line graph of the annual number of notified cases of measles in England and Wales between 1940-1995. Prior to the introduction of the measles vaccine in the UK in 1968, cases of measles were high, varying from year to year but with an average of ~400,000 cases per year between 1940-1968. Following the introduction of the vaccine in 1968 cases have rapidly fallen with only 16,375 cases recorded in 1994.
