HPV Vaccine
Protects against Human Papillomavirus strains which cause cervical cancer.
It is the most common cancer in women aged under 35.
850 people die from cervical cancer each year.
The vaccine is 99% effective.
The vaccine targets HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18.
Dose 1 is given to girls and boys aged 11-14, usually in school year 8.
Dose 2 is given 6-24 months later.
Currently available from GUM clinics for men (45 years or under) who have sex with men.
